Ferrari has presented on its official site the first pictures and information about the new 599 GTO, a V12 berlinetta that becomes the company’s fastest ever road car. The 599 GTO will be a limited edition based on the 599XX experimental track car.
Ferrari’s new model will have a limited production of 599 units, reserved for the clients seeking the ultimate high-performance driving. With the time of 1’24” the 599 GTO set a new record lap time at Fiorano, benefiting from the technological transfer from racing vehicles.
The 599 GTO is powered by 5999 cc 65-degree V12 engine, derived from the 599XX unit. It produces a maximum power of 670 hp at 8250 rpm and a torque of 620 Nm at 6500 rpm. Fitted with an F1 6-speed transmission the 599 GTO is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.35 seconds, reaching a top speed of 335 km/h.
The new road car from Ferrari features the latest, second-generation carbon-ceramic brakes which are lighter and offer better performance. It also presents aerodynamic innovations, such as the wheel doughnuts which increase aerodynamic efficiency as well as improve brake cooling, and the Supersport tyres developed by Michelin.
Engineers focused on reducing the weight in the GTO model, with much of the work done with the development of the 599XX. To do so Ferrari engineers increased the use of composites and components manufactured with technologies aiming at racing specifications. They were used on the bodywork and greenhouse, the brakes, transmission and exhaust system.
The 599 GTO will have its world premiere at the Beijing International Motor Show at the end of April. For a small number of Ferrari clients an exclusive preview of the new model will be held on April 14th at the Military Academy in Modena.
