Focus and Fiesta ECOnetic Will Be Europe's Most Efficient Non-Hybrid Cars

Ford is covering all of its bases on the efficiency front. Not only did it just announce a small, petrol Ecoboost engine for the Focus, C-Max and B-Max, Ford will also bring a 1.6 liter diesel engine capable of less than 90g/km of CO2 and 3.4l/100km of diesel or less.

The Econetic models are meant to be the most efficient in the Ford range. In the Focus it is capable of producing 89g/km of CO2 and using 3.4l/100km of diesel. In the Fiesta it will make 87g/km of CO2 and use 3.3l/100km of diesel. These are just the first Ford models to use this this technology, and it plans to roll it out on over 30 models by the end of next year.

Econetic will be a range of models using Ford's 1.0 liter and 1.6 liter Ecoboost petrol engines and 1.6 liter TDCI diesel engine.

The basis for the Econetic technology in the Focus and Fiesta is a 1.6 liter TDCI engine. In the Fiesta is will produce 95PS with a five-speed manual transmission and 105PS with a six-speed manual transmission in the Focus.It is the first Ford to use a NOx trap to reduce emissions.This trap captures NOx and turns it into hydrogen and water. The Econetic technology includes start/stop, regenerative charging, Active Grill Shutter, Eco Mode, electric power steering and low friction oils.

The Focus and Fiesta with Econetic technology will come in 2012. Ford did not announce what the new models will cost.
