Ford has updated its Ford Interceptor police vehicles to become the brand's most efficient police vehicles in its history. It offers a 25% improvement over the previous Crown Victoria-based police cruisers.
The new Ford Interceptor offers 288hp and uses 18mpg city and 26mpg highway, which is a 4mpg city and 5mpg highway improvement over the Crown Victoria while offering 38 more horsepower. There is also a version with e 3.5 liter Ecoboost engine with 365hp that uses 16mpg city and 23 mpg highway.
According to a study of police vehicle use in Ottawa, Canada, the average police vehicle idles for up to 6.7 hours in a 10 hour shift. The 3.5l engine in the Interceptor uses 35% less fuel when idling than the 4.6l V8 in the Crown Victoria did.
“Our extensive experience with the Crown Victoria and feedback from our Police Advisory Board helped us develop the next-generation Police Interceptor to be a no-compromise vehicle that can easily be outfitted to meet the needs of individual agencies,” said Lisa Teed, Ford marketing manager for Police Interceptor.
