at the opening of its new factory in Camaçari, Brazil. The next generation Ka will be Ford’s entry-level car in Brazil and be sold worldwide.

“As an integral part of our global growth strategy, we are committed to bringing world-class products to Brazil and to helping the region create global vehicles for the rest of the world,” said Bill Ford, Ford Executive Chairman.

The Ka represents Ford’s next generation global compact car what Ford plans to launch in some markets in 2014. It promises that the car will have class-leading fuel economy, room for five and new technology including Ford SYNC infotainment. Ford expects it to be a big seller in South America and Southeast Asia.

The look of the car is a miniaturized version of Ford’s hatchback look. It has a trapezoidal grill and raked hood with headlights wrapping around the edges. The roof rises at the rear to maximize headroom and cargo space.

Ford did not show an interior or discuss engines for the Ka.

“The Ford Ka Concept is aimed at customers in growth markets who want and expect more. It will delight consumers with its sleek design, clever technology, attention-to-detail quality and superb craftsmanship,” said Joe Hinrichs, president for the Americas at Ford.

Ford is predicting that the sub-compact vehicle segment will increase in sales by 6.2 million cars by 2017, 35% growth from 2012.
