There are some major shakeups at the Williams Formula 1 Team today. Founder and team patriarch Frank Williams will step down from the team's board. Williams will start divorcing himself from the team and handing control over to the next generation.
"I turn 70 in April and I have decided to signal the next stage in the gradual but inevitable process of handing over the reins to the next generation by stepping down from the Board at the end of this month. This is not as dramatic a move as it may appear: I shall continue to work full-time as Team Principal and I shall continue to attend all Board meetings as observer. I also remain the majority shareholder of Williams Grand Prix Holdings PLC," said Williams.
Williams' daughter Claire will join the board as Director of Marketing and Communication. Claire is not taking her father's spot on the board; she is taking the place of Dominic Reilly who was the previous communications director. She has been working with the team in various roles for the last 10 years.
