have all announced their intentions to create Apple's Siri-compatible entertainment systems in their cars. Apple announced the partnership with the automakers at yesterday's World Developers Conference.
The technology will allow iPhone users to connect the device to their vehicle to make calls, dictate messages and look up directions. A button on the steering wheel will allow drivers to speak to Siri to issue hands-free commands.
"Eyes Free" is a new piece of technology Apple is adding to Siri in the iOS 6 update coming this fall. It will allow iPhone users a larger of number of voice commands while the screen is off to prevent distracted driving.
"A number of auto manufacturers have committed to delivering Eyes Free Siri integration in the next 12 months," said Scott Forstall, Apple's senior vice president for iOS software.
