with a new 3.6l V6 that has more power, more torque but the same fuel economy.

The new V6 has 301hp and 272lb-ft torque and motivates the Terrain to 60mph in 6.7 seconds. The fuel economy is the same as the previous V6 with 17mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway for the front-wheel drive model and 16/23mpg for the all-wheel drive version. The extra power and torque come from direct injection and variable valve timing. The torque figure is up 22.5% over the previous V6. The towing capacity is rated at 3,500lbs.

“Straight-line acceleration to 60 in under seven seconds is a great proof point for the 2013 Terrain, but the benefit this engine upgrade has for drivers goes much deeper. They’ll notice improved passing power with fewer downshifts, as well as stronger towing performance,” said Essy Ipakchian, lead development engineer for the Terrain.

The new V6 will be available in the third quarter of this year. The new V6 engine is a $1,500 option. For the more luxurious Denali, the engine is a $1,750 option and comes with 19in chrome wheels.

The base engine continues to be a 2.4l four-cylinder with 182hp.
