R-Spec.
“The R-Spec takes the Veloster theme of affordable performance to an entirely new level that is sure to appeal to driving enthusiasts,” said Scott Margason, head of Hyundai America product planning.
The Veloster Turbo R is the cheapest Veloster Turbo in Hyundai’s lineup. In addition to the specs of the standard Veloster including the 201hp and 195lb-ft engine, the R-Spec gets a sport shifter from B&M Racing and retuned suspension and steering for better responsiveness.
The interior replaces the standard leather with leatherette bolsters with red and black cloth inserts for the sport seats, and R-Spec is embroidered into the floor mats.
Buyers will be able to option red accent trim on the front splitter and side blades for the R-Spec.
To save on the price, the R-Spec does not have push button start, mirror-mounted turn signals, auto-up windows, heated seats or gloss trim.
All Veloster Turbo models, including the R-Spec, get new torque vectoring for 2014 that brakes the inside front wheel during cornering to increase grip. Both cars also get an active sound system that brings more of the engine noise into the cabin when the driver wants it.
Orders will begin for the car in December and sales will begin in February. Prices begin at $22,110. It can be ordered in Elite White, Ultra Black, Marathon Blue, and exclusively for 2014 Sprint Gray.
