to take on the course with Millen behind the wheel, and it hopes to cut the time even further. Last year was the first time that the entire Pikes Peak course was paved, and that has led to times up the course falling significantly. Millen's time last year beat the previous record by about 5 seconds.
Hyundai will build two cars for the June 30, 2013, event. Millen will drive the car in the Unlimited Class, and Hyundai will build a second car for the 2WD class.
“Last year’s all-time world record, set by Millen in the production-based Genesis Coupe, was a defining milestone in Hyundai’s quest to build thrilling and durable rear-drive performance vehicles that are as capable on the road as they are in the rigors of competitive motorsport," Hyundai America Vice President Steve Shannon.
The Unlimited Class car will produce in excess of 900hp and 800lb-ft of torque from a highly modified Hyundai Lamda V6 engine. It will get a sllouette body that will vaguely resemble the Genesis Coupe.
The 2WD Class car will be based on the car that Millen drove last year, and it will announce the driver later.
