Mark Webber back to the poles in Spain

Mark Webber has today driven to his first pole of the 2011 Formula 1 season after beating his team mate Sebastian Vettel to take the first position in the grid line for tomorrow's Spanish Grand Prix. This is the Aussie's first pole since the qualifying for the Belgian GP.

The two Red Bulls had a team fight for pole position putting the other teams almost over a second behind them. This time, Webber was faster than Vettel, the pole dominator of the season.

Having suffered with KERS problems during the qualification Vettel was the first to make his pole effort, with a time of 1m21.181s. With both Red Bulls opting for a single attempt on Q3, Webber beat his time a few seconds later to set the fastest time of qualifying at 1m20.981s. With no one being able to challenge them, the two decided to leave their F1s even before the end of qualifying.

McLaren lloked set two fill the second row for tomorrow's race, with Hamilton and Button lying third and fourth, but in a great effort, home hero Fernando Alonso took fourth place away from Button to separate the two Brits. Felipe Massa was eighth at the end of the session behind an impressive Petrov in sixth and Rosberg in seventh. In the other Mercedes, Michael Schumacher opted not to run in Q3.

Ninth was Pastor Maldonado who had his best qualifying performance of the season and got Williams to Q3 for the second time this season.

With Toro Rosso and Sauber sharing rows six and seven, in Q2 the most surprising effort came from Team Loutus' Heikki Kovalainen who got his F1 to Q2 for the second time in its history. Team Lotus had promised improvements for Barcelona and they appeared as the Finn finished ahead of the Force Indias of di Resta and Sutil.
