*UPDATE* Mazda has confirmed that the CX-5 will be coming to Europe in early 2012. It plans for the 2.2 Skyactiv diesel engine to produce less than 120g/km of CO2.
Mazda portrays itself as a Japanese automaker with a little bit of sportiness. It makes a range of cars to cover practically every niche except for a compact SUV – until now. It just released images of the CX-5 a compact SUV that uses Mazda's SKYACTIV series of engines and debut Mazda's new design language dubbed “Kodo- The Motion of Soul.” The car will be on display to the public for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The CX-5 will be available with Mazda's SKYACTIV-G 2.0l petrol engine and SKYACTIV-D 2.2l diesel engine. It will also be the first Mazda to use its Kodo design language, which was previously shown on the Shinrai and Minagi concept cars.
SKYACTIV is an engine technology designed by Mazda that allows for incredibly high compression ratios in petrol and diesel engines. The engines are capable of a compression ratio of 14:1, which allows for higher fuel efficiency and more power.
The Frankfurt Motor Show will take place from September 13 through the 25, 2011.
