Mazda Develops New Weight Saving Resin for CX-5

Mazda has developed a new resin with a rubber/polypropylene blend to create a resin that allows it to mold parts with a 20% weight savings. 

Mazda will use the new resin for the first time on the new CX-5 SUV. It maintains the same rigidity as current materials but can be much thinner. It also allows for Mazda to cool the parts for half the time, which speeds up production time. 

Mazda plans to use this resin on parts on future vehicles as well.
