With over 1 million cars sold, the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class model has firmly established itself as the brands bestselling model. According to Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars, this June the sedan is the global market leader in its segment and the estate’s deliveries increased by 20 per cent in the same month.
Overall Mercedes-Benz has sold more than eight million vehicles in this segment since the launch of the first C-Class in 1982. Hence, the current model stands in the tradition of the previous generation which has sold about 1.9 million units as sedan or estate throughout its lifetime. Regarding markets, the USA make up for 25 per cent of total sales, closely followed by Germany and China.
As the model’s secret to success Mercedes points to its efficiency, safety and reliability. At this point, the company’s focus is on improving efficiency further by introducing a new ECO start-stop function into the C-Class’ C 180 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and C 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY models, together with mechanical six-speed transmissions.
The vehicle will then consume only 4.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, which means a reduction of 0.4 liters compared to the current consumption. Also, the move means a cut in CO2 emissions from 127 g/km to 117 g/km.
Obviously, Mercedes-Benz has realized that to keep the C-Class on top of the bestseller lists in the future, making the model greener and more economic is imperative.
