Mercedes Designs Yacht Inspired by Silver Arrows

has the designed the concept for a 14m yacht inspired by its Silver Arrows racecars from the 30s. The design is on display at the Monaco Yacht Show, and Mercedes calls it the Granturismo. 

Mercedes and UK-based boat builder Silver Arrows Marine plan to actually produce the yacht and will sell it in 2013. Mercedes-Benz Style also worked on the choosing the materials and layout of the boat's interior. Silver Arrows is responsible for actually building the boat. The Granturismo can be used as a pleasure craft or be slept in overnight.  

“Giving shape to a boat was an exciting challenge for automotive designers like we are. Our task was to explore how to apply the Mercedes-Benz design language to the particular proportions and specific requirements of a boat. We wanted to create something special and what we have come up with is indeed unique," said Gorden Wagener, head of design at Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Mercedes-Benz Style has also designed furniture and the interior for the Eurocopter EC145 helicopter in the past.
