European emissions standards are bringing the death of massive V8 engines. The latest casualty is AMG's 6.2-liter V8 that will be dropped from the next C-Class AMG in favor of a turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8.

and will be built on a modular engine design. The engine is basically two of Mercedes' new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines sharing a common crank.
Power is expected to be a minimum of 450hp and likely more, which is roughly identical to the current V8. An even more powerful version will likely replace the 5.5-liter V8 from the SLK55 AMGMercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMGGermany, 2011 > present14 photos
. The advantage to the smaller engine will be better emissions and fuel economy.
