has introduced new generations of the Unimog and Econic that offer better fuel economy, upgraded interiors and new drive systems. They are now both Euro IV emissions compliant.
The new generation Unimog is available in 10 different models with either two or three axles. Power comes from a new family of BlueEfficiency Power four- and six-cylinder engines with between 154hp and 349hp, which are all Euro IV compliant. They improve fuel consumption by about 4% with no change to weight capacity.
The new Unimog is easier to use thanks to its new hydraulic system and better visibility. The Econic gets a lower entry-point for the cabin and upgraded interior. Mercedes also says that upkeep costs have been reduced.
“In a wide variety of applications, the three new model series impressively demonstrate the leading role that the Unimog and the Econic play in innovation. We’re convinced that the new vehicles will set standards and substantially contribute to the business success of existing and future customers," said Yaris Pürsün, Head of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks.
Both the Unimog and Econic will built at Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks' factory in Wörth, Germany beginning in September. They share the chassis and electronics with the new Actros.
Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks builds the Econic, Unimog, and Zetros trucks in small batches for specialist clients. It built 3,450 trucks last year and performed about 10,000 truck conversions.
