The BMW X3 Drive20i will be the new entry-level X3. Ituses BMW's TwinPower system, which uses a single, twin-scroll turbo, to deliver 184hp and 270 Newton meters of torque. It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission but is also available with an optional eight-speed automatic. Both versions comes with start-stop functionality as standard.
The new top of the line X3 will be the X3 xDrive 35d with BMW's turbocharged, 3.0l inline-six engine. BMW claims that it makes 313hp and 630 Newton meters of torque. The engine uses a true twin-turbo system with a smaller turbo at lower rpms and transitioning to a larger turbo as revs increase. The xDrive 35d is only available with the eight-speed automatic transmission.
As an option, BMW is offering real-time traffic information that provides up-to-the-minute traffic information and allows the driver to change the vehicle's navigation to avoid delays.
BMW did not announce prices or specific dates when the new engines will be available. It only specified autumn 2011.
