Ford of Europe is presenting at the Moscow Motor Show the facelifted Mondeo. According to the brand this is “the most stylish and technologically advanced Mondeo model ever.” The new lineup will be available in three different body styles: 5-door, 4-door and wagon. With the facelift the Mondeo gets a restyled exterior, an enhanced interior and new high-efficiency Ford EcoBoost petrol and TDCi diesel powertrains.
The Mondeo will now take its position as the flagship model in the company's European portfolio. With this facelift Ford completes the rejuvenation of its’ large car range, following the works made on the Ford S-MAX and Galaxy models earlier this year.
"The new Mondeo completes the very comprehensive update of our European family of flagship large cars which we started earlier this year when we launched the new Ford
S-MAX and Galaxy models. New designs, powertrains and technologies deliver greater driving pleasure and lower CO2 emissions, as well as a more premium feel and even more comfort and safety,” said Stephen Odell, Chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe
In terms of exterior design the work has been made to further emphasize the kinetic design signatures in each of the three body styles while incorporating new technologies such as LED lighting.
At the front end the restyled Mondeo received larger lower trapezoidal and slimmer upper grilles. It also gets a revised bonnet profile and integral new LED day running lights.
A new full chrome window surround for the higher series models helps to emphasize the sleek lines of the new Mondeo, while the larger, re-designed, LED tail lamps give additional kinetic movement to the rear.
The 240 PS derivative of the efficient new 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine will be making its debut with the new Mondeo. It will join the existing 203 PS version of this engine, introduced in Mondeo, new S-MAX and new Galaxy earlier in 2010.
Also being introduced is a revised version of the 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with a power output of 200 PS, becoming the most powerful Ford Duratorq diesel engine so far.
In order to enhance efficiency and economy the Mondeo features new Ford ECOnetic Technologies such as the Smart Regenerative Charging, the Ford Eco Mode driver information system and an Active Grille Shutter system, the first one ever to be used on a Ford.
