is meant to push the limits of a luxury sedan. One cutting edge feature of the next generation S-Class will be a radar- and camera-based obstacle avoidance system. The system will be linked to the automatic braking and emergency steering functions, and it is supposed to have fewer false positives than earlier versions of the technology.
The system was developed by Continental with forward-scanning radar that is then analyzed by cameras when both systems agree that something is an obstacle like a pedestrian, the automatic braking system will stop the car. Mercedes claims that the system can even detect pedestrians standing behind parked cars.
The combination of radar and cameras allows Mercedes to also implement Emergency Steer Assist that will also be able to steer the car around obstacles automatically if it detects that it is safe around the vehicle. InfinitiInfinitiJapan, 1989 > present31 models
