Nissan 3500HD Passenger Van Coming to the US in Spring 2012

Nissan in the US has been pushing to enter into the commercial vehicles market. Its lineup of NV cargo vans have just launched in the us to compete with Mercedes' Sprinter vans and the Ford Transit Connect. Until now, though, the NV vans have been pure cargo vans, but Nissan will be launching a passenger van version in the US in the Spring of 2012.

The Nissan NV3500 HD Passenger Van will offer four rows and be able to seat 12 passengers. It will be available with either the 261hp 281 lb-ft of torque, 4.0l V6 or the 317hp 385lb-ft of torque V8. Both engines come with a five-speed automatic transmission.

This is really meant to be a work vehicle, and Nissan is not really intending it for general consumers, although in theory anyone could be a NV3500. The passenger van has space in the center console to carry a laptop computer and offers 120v outlets. Nissan offers navigation and a backup camera as options.

Like the rest of the NV3500 HD line, it will be made in Canton, Mississippi and will be available through Nissan Commercial dealers.

Is it me, or does anyone else think this looks like a Ford Expedition?

Hi Vetteman, Sorry, but I think it is you ;-) Does not look like an Expedition to me, it is more boxy.

Oh, and this NV is much bigger than the NV we have here in Europe. Our is the NV200...

Yeah, this is a full-size van, think Ford E-series in the US or Mercedes Sprinter.

What is weird for me is that this type of car is getting more and more like a bus. 12 people?!?!? What is this?!? A truck to take people to work? With 260hp?

In the US maybe, Europe right now is more looking into downsizing. Even the M5 lost its V10 for a bi-turbo V8.
