Opel Mokka

The new Mokka is Opel's attempt to enter the growing sub-compact SUV market in Europe that is currently occupied by vehicles like the Ford Kuga. The 4.28m long SUV holds five passengers and is offering many options for buyers to outfit the cars as they need.

The car is a chunky, little SUV that looks quite muscular. It has protective side cladding on the sides and corners in case drivers every take it off road. Inside there are 19 storage locations and 1,372l of total cargo space. The Mokka is available with optional bi-xenon lights with LED running lights and high beam assist. They also bend around corners.

The Mokka is offered with three engines that are all available with either front- or all-wheel drive. There are two petrol engines. The normally aspirated1.6l engine offers 115hp, while the 1.4l turbo version has 140hp. The diesel engine offers 130hp and 300Nm of torque, and it is the only engine available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission at launch. As standard, the Mokka comes with a six-speed manual transmission with start/stop. Later, the 1.4l turbo will also get the automatic transmission as an option.

The all-wheel drive system in the Mokka is biased fully to the front most of the time, but it can send half of the car's power to the rear when necessary. The system incorporates traction control, stability control, hill start assist and hill descent assist.

The car has three trim levels: Essentia, Enjoy and Cosmo. The mid-level Enjoy trim adds manual air conditioning, 18in wheels and radio with Bluetooth. The higher Cosmo trim adds park assist, dual zone air conditioning, partial leather seats and chrome trim.

The Mokka will be on sale later in 2012 in Europe.
