is trying to dig itself out of a sales slump by broadening outside of Europe, especially in China. That means it needs to create more models to appeal to the Chinese market, and its latest idea is to create a large SUV using the platform from the Citroën Wild RubisDS DS Wild RubisFrance, 2013 > 2013 concept and using a diesel hybrid engine and luxury interior. A concept for the truck will be shown at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2014.

“We clearly need to be in that market. The only question is whether it’s a 4x4. In Europe, 80 per cent of SUVs are 4x2s – we have the functionality of 4x4s with our HYbrid4 technology,” said Peugeot director Maxime Picat.

The styling for the 6008 will follow the 2008Peugeot 2008 Gen.1France, 2012 > present58 versions

The 6008 will be roughly the same size as the Wild Rubis concept at about 4.7m long and 1.95m wide. It does not use Peugeot’s new EMP2 platform from the 308, but it instead takes pieces from the current 508Peugeot 508France, 2011 > present116 versions

“We will continually push the brand upmarket – it’s a priority over the coming years. We’re also looking to improve the quality of service,” said Picat.

The 6008 is planned to go on sale in late 2015 in China and early 2016 in Europe.
