has announced that the standard 8in infotainment system in its cars will be powered by the Windows Azure cloud service, and Qoros will call its suite of services QorosQloud. The system incorporates navigation, vehicle monitoring and information sharing either from the car, owners' mobile devices or computer.

“QorosQloud demonstrates the reliability, flexibility and undeniable value of Windows Azure for solving complex business challenges in China.  We are proud to provide the best cloud platform with the best technical support to enable Qoros to introduce its infotainment and telematics solution," said Microsoft China CEO Ralph Haupter.

Windows Azure is the first public cloud service to be operated in China, and the Qoros will be the first car to use the service. In China, it will offer access to 30 services from Chinese providers. Qoros said that its cars in Europe will also use Azure but did not announce any content partners.

The system includes functions like displaying traffic information, connecting to social networks, displaying the car's condition and making owner's aware of necessary service.

QorosQloud will be able to factor in journey times to appointments, if drivers sync their calendars with the car. It will alert drivers when they should leave to make it to their destination on time.

Qoros designed the 8in infotainment touchscreen display in-house. It is designed to work like owners' mobile devices and supports swipes, taps and multi-touch. For example, if drivers receive a call, they just have to swipe the screen towards themselves to answer it. It even factors in walking time from parking to the destination.

Windows Azure will become available to Chinese mobile customers on June 6.
