RB7 uveiled: to fly as high as the RB6

World Champion team Red Bull Racing has today presented the RB7, the car that will try to defend the titles won last year with the RB6. Once again designed by Adrian Newey the RB7 will be powered once again by Renault.

The most visible changes on the RB7 can be spotted on the higher nose and engine cover and in the different design of the rear wing. With the ban of F-Duct, Red Bull RB7 designer Adrian Newey and his team of engineers came up with a “movable rear wing which is designed to help in that regard. How it affects races and whether it makes overtaking too easy and/or dangerous is a concern, but one that can be adjusted relatively easily by the FIA,” explained Newey.

Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull says that preparing for the new season was a great challenge because “There have been a number of changes to the regulations and while they are not as comprehensive as the changes for 2009, the major differences - such as the re-introduction of the KERS system and the arrival of a moveable rear wing to aid overtaking - have meant that RB7 is quite different to last year's car.”

Newey explained the philosophy that has been part of Red Bull Racing over the last three years: “what we have done is taken the philosophy of continuing evolution. We have evolved RB6, which itself was an evolution of 2009's RB5, and this is, if you like, the third generation of a successful lineage.”

Team boss Chris Horner hopes that the success of 2010 will be consolidated in 2011: “We’ve joined some of the elite names, some of the great teams in Formula One and now we’re determined to build on that. We want to prove that we can remain in that elite group. We have been the most successful team in F1 in 2010 and we want to consolidate that position and seek out even greater success.”

This afternoon the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel will be the first to drive the RB7 on the first testing session in Valencia.
