F1 boss Christian Horner are denying that the season is boring for fans because there is no clear leader. They and Jenson Button do admit that this season has been very hard for teams to reliably win races.
Some critics are saying that winning in Formula 1 this season is too random, and it is not interesting to watch.
"If people now say randomness is unattractive, then that is a 180 from what people felt a few years ago when it was very predictable," said Whitmarsh.
He believes that not knowing who will win is exciting. Not knowing who will be on pole or who will win is "tremendously exciting" according to Whitmarsh. He argues that just a few years ago people were arguing that Formula 1 was boring and the winner was too predictable. Now, the one thing that you certainly can not call Formula 1 is predictable.
Horner is in agreement with Whitmarsh.
"I think it is remarkable that there have been so many winners. The tyres are a factor and the fact that there are so many strong drivers as well is also a crucial factor," Horner.
Red Bull is the only team this season to win two races.
Both men agree that the tires are what make this season so volatile.
McLaren driver Jensen Button is a voice of dissent against Horner and Whitmarsh.
"There will come a time when the fans will say, 'So anyone can win a grand prix, everyone can lose a grand prix like that?' I think they're finding it a little bit strange now. I don't know, but hopefully a pattern will emerge after the next couple of races," said Button.
