Red Bull unbeaten in qualifying with another pole for Vettel

Sebastian Vettel has conquered his fifth pole position of the season and his 20th of the career after being the quickest in the qualifying session for tomorrow's Monaco Grand Prix. The session had to be interrupted after a heavy crash from Sauber's Sergio Perez.

The German time 1m13.556s of was set halfway into Q3, a time sufficient to keep him ahead of Jenson Button by 0.441s. Crashing heavily towards the end of the session Sergio Perez helped Vettel secure yet another pole as the time left in the session wasn't sufficient for the nine cars left running to warm up their tyres and make an attempt to take the lead from the championship leader.

Thanks to the crash from Sergio Perez the session had to be interrupted for 40 minutes, with the Sauber pilot being stretchered away and the barriers reset.

So with the long interruption there would be no change in the top six, after the restart of the session with Button being followed by Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso. Behind them Michael Schumacher equaled his best qualifying of the season outperforming Ferrari's Felipe Massa in sixth.

Lewis Hamilton was the driver whose performance was more affected by the red flags. The Brit was the quickest on both Q1 and Q2 but was out with his set super soft tyres when the red flags came out. After the session restarted he only managed to climb up into seventh ahead of Nico Rosberg's Mercedes and Pastor Maldonado's Williams. If Perez is fit to start tomorrow's race will depart from 10th position.

Renault had promised that they would be fighting for victory in Monaco, but their promise seems to be a little bit far from happening. Vitaly Petrov missed Q3 for the first time this season and his team mate only managed a disappointing 16th spot on the grid.

Rubens Barrichello was fighting for the last spot on Q3 but he didn't managed to make the cut and ended up behind the Russian from Renault and ahead of Sauber's Kobayashi and the two Force Indias of di Resta and Sutil. Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi was 17th.

The biggest name missing out on Q2 was Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari who was slower than Team Lotus' Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli, ending up in 20th.

Neither of the HRTs were on track during qualifying after Tonio Liuzz's crash during the morning practice and with a suspension behind discovered on Nahrain Karthikeyan's car. With neither of them making a lap, they didn't make the 107% cut, not being able to start tomorrow's race.
