The race was clearly marked by the collision between the two Mercedes which eventually affected the performance of both drivers. Rosberg and Hamilton started from the first row but eventually hit on the second lap. After a weaker start, Rosberg tried to regain the lead of the race in Les Combes, but ended up hitting the left rear tire of Hamilton.
The British driver had a puncture and got the low part of the car mistreated but managed to get to the pits, but the car resented from damage. Hamilton returned to the race, but he no longer had the same pace. He ended up requesting his team to retire and thus save the engine. The request would eventually be granted with five laps to go.
Rosberg's car also ended up suffering with the clash with Hamilton. The front wing was damaged and it turned out to reflect on the pace of the German who still managed to get to second.
