The great advantage of the Mercedes team in Sunday's race was the pit stop strategy that turned out to be enough to beat the strong acceleration in straight of the Williams' of Felipe Massa and Valteri Bottas. Yet the British team achieved its best result of the season reaching hird and fourth places.
With a longer second stint in the race Fernando Alonso managed to climb a few places in the standings and finished the race in fifth place just over a second behind Felipe Massa's Williams. An alternative team strategy from Force IndiaForce IndiaIndia, 2007 > present8 models

gave Sergio Perez the opportunity to climb to sixth place after overtaking Kevin Magnussen of McLaren in the closing laps. The Danish driver eventually reached in Austria his best result of the season.
After another premature retirement from four-time world champion, Red Bull did not give a joy to the Austrian crowd and Daniel Ricciardo was also some holes below the pace shown in recent races. The Australian driver started the race in fifth place, but went down the order, finishing eighth.
Nico Hulkenberg who led in the middle of the race thanks to a bolder strategy to compensate 15th place on the grid, eventually fell to ninth, still ensuring a couple of extra points to Force India.
Kimi Raikkonen completed the top 10 ahead of Jenson Button and Pastor Maldonado.
