For the second time Saab fans have taken to Facebook to protest GM giving up on Saab and bemoan Saab's bankruptcy.
On November 24, Saab fans went to the GM Facebook page to protest them giving up the company, and users kept posting for at least two days afterward. Well, things have gotten weird again. Now Saab fans are on both the Saab and GM Facebook pages. The Saab page looks like the funeral for a friend. People are going to the page telling their Saab stories and posting pictures. There are even some people discussing how to save the company.
"R.I.P. SAAB i never will forget you... we had 4 short flings... once you save my life at a rollover (nose-over) with 115 mph... even you´ve been a convertible... you did your job.... now it´s all over.... :(," said Peter Rath
"Guys! Let's write a petition to Toyota to Save SAAB. They're rich company (the biggest moto company in all the world), and they've great technology. In the other side Toyota, and generally Japan Cars are natural enemies to GM in USA. So GM will be angry if Toyota becomes SAAB owner. :)," said Raistlin Majere.
"Keep calm and carry on, we will make it this time too, the griffin will rise up again", said Daniel Lampko.
There are messages like this all over the Saab Web page in many different languages, and people are creating their own images celebrating their Saabs.
If the Saab Facebook page is a wake, then the GM page is a riot. Users are shaming GM about them not letting Saab be sold to Youngman. GM's position is understandable because it did not want to share its technology with a Chinese automaker when it already has deals in place. Credit should be given to GM though because it is not editing the posts that are critical against them.
Obviously Saab is gone. The name might live, but it has been a zombie company for at least a year if not longer. However, it is wonderful to see people who truly have passion for their vehicles. These are not Porsches or Ferraris. Saab is a brand that is barely aspirational. Pretty much anyone can own one, and that makes this outpouring of love and anger feel a little bit more special. Do you think people would react the same way if Kia suddenly went out of business?
