Toyota Europe Puts Yaris Hybrid into Production

Yaris Hybrid enters production in France

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid has gone into production in France, and the first car has been delivered to a customer in northern France.

"We are proud to starting building the first full hybrid model in the B-segment in Europe. Furthermore, we are committed to bringing the highest level of quality to our customers. Having the model produced here, also means a brighter future for TMMF and the Valenciennes region. With petrol prices increasing ever more, we believe that we have the perfect fuel efficient product for the urban customer in this segment," said Toyota Motor Manufacturing France President Makoto Sano.

The Yaris Hybrid is based on the third generation Yaris and uses the same powertrain as the North American and Japanese market Prius C with a total of 99hp. Toyota claims fuel economy of 3.1l/100km of petrol, and it produces 79g/km of CO2.

Toyota has experienced production problems for the Prius C in the US and Japan due to larger than expected demand.

Toyota intends for all of the cars that it sells in Europe to be hybrids by 2020.
