Vettel Wins and gets closer to a second title

Vettel has given one step forward towards renewing his world title after winning today’s Italian Grand Prix in a dominant performance. The German secured his eighth victory of the season showing that Red Bull made its homework in order to cut its disadvantages for Monza.

Jenson Button was second in Italy, after winning the challenge against Fernando Alonso. Hamilton had to settle for fourth having been held by a slower pace Michael Schumacher. Mark Webber was unfortunate in Monza and crashed in the early moments of the race, losing his second spot on the championship standings to the Spaniard from Ferrari.

The race started in the best way for Ferrari as Fernando Alonso made a brilliant start flying from 4th to 1st taking advantage from a slow reaction from Vettel who then had to defend his position from Lewis Hamilton.

At the back a crash involving Tonio Liuzzi, Nico Rosberg and Vitaly Petrov forced the immediate entry of the safety car in scene. Rubens Barrichello and Kamui Kobayashi were damaged in the traffic jam caused by the accident Bruno Senna, Sebastien Buemi and Adrian Sutil had to go off-track in order to avoid the confusion.

When the race was retaken on lap four Lewis Hamilton was caught by surprise by Michael Schumacher who got ahead of the Brit.

At the same time Webber was overtaking Jenson Button after they both lost some ground at the start. The Aussie then went after Felipe Massa and in the first chicane he touched the Ferrari from the Brazilian and ended up spinning and smashing his front wing. The wing ended up below the RB7 of Webber and he crashed in Parabolica.

At the front the action was totally different for the other Red Bull. Vettel was attacking Alonso at full strenghth and managed to overtake him on lap five at the Roggia chicane. He then flew away to hold a 15 second held throughout most of the rest of the race.

Schumacher and Hamilton were then closing in on Alonso but they both got entertained with each other. Schumacher hold firmly against Hamilton’s attacks, taking advantage of the Mercedes great straightline speed and thanks to some good defending skills.

With the fight going on for some laps Button managed to catch the two drivers and easily got past them as Hamilton had to back off after Schumacher slammed the door at the Curva Grande.

Button then went after Fernando Alonso and quickly passed him after the second stops when the Spaniard made a mistake with a poor exit from the first chicane.

Making use of the the Pre-Ascari DRS zone, Hamilton finally passed Schumacher and started to chase Alonso. But it was already the final lap and a little bit too late.

Felipe Massa was able to recover from the incident with Webber and finished sixth behind Michael Schumacher. Behind him, Sergio Pérez looked certain to finsish seventh but a late gear box failure handed that position to Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari who did a great recovery coming back from 18th place in the starting grid.

After being involved in the early crash Paul di Resta, Bruno Senna and Sebastien Buemi  still manage to recover and finish in the point positions.

After a good start Pastor Maldonado got his Williams Cosworth to sixth place. But as the race progressed he didn’t have the pace to hold on to that position finishing 11th ahead of his team-mate.
