Cars brand sold 480,900 cars in April, up 5.4%, and has sold 1.91 million cars in the first four months of the year, up 5.3%. However, the brand continues to see falling sales in Western Europe where sales fell 7.9% to 279,300 cars.

Total European sales were 545,300 units, down 7.5%, in the first four months of the year. Of those 279,300 cars were in Western Europe. Sales in Germany fell 10.9% to 180,500 cars. Central and Eastern European sales were up 1.9% to 85,500 cars. Sales in Russia were down 2.1% to 49.500 cars.

Asian sales grew by 17.9% to 855,100 cars in the first four months of the year. Of those, 783,900 sales were in China and Hong Kong, a 20% increase. Sales in India fell by 18.4% to 21,300 cars.

North American sales were up 4.4% to 196,200 cars in the first four months of 2013. Sales in the US fell by 0.1% to 131,800 cars.

South American sales were down 4.5% to 235,200 cars in the first four months. Brazilian sales fell 2.9% to 175,600 cars.

“Developments on world markets remained mixed and the situation in Europe in particular is very challenging. Volkswagen Passenger Cars is not immune to this trend. Overall, though, the brand recorded a modest increase in worldwide deliveries as a result of its convincing model range. The signals from China, where Volkswagen has been successfully selling vehicles for the last 30 years, continue positive,” Christian Klingler, head of sales and marketing for Volkswagen.

Looking at VW brand's sales, it seems that China is keeping the brand in the black this year. Sales are down in every major region except for Asia and North America in the first four months of the year, but North America only has about a quarter of the sales compared to Asia.
