Passenger Cars sales increased by 3.4% to 5.93 million cars in 2013 thanks to strong sales in the Asia-Pacific region where nearly half of its sales occurred. It was the new sales record for the company.

In Europe, Volkswagen Cars sold 1.64 million cars, down 3.7% from 2012. Regionally, sales fell 1.4% in Central and Eastern Europe, including a 5.1% drop in Russia, and sales fell 3.9% in Western Europe, including a drop of 4.4% in Germany.
In North America, Volkswagen sales fell by 1% to 616,800 cars from 2012. Sales in the United States sales fell by 6.9% to 407,700 cars.
South America faired no better with sales falling 13.9% to 720,400 cars. Of those, 550,800 were sold in Brazil, down 16.7%.
Volkswagen Cars’ lone bright spot was the Asian-Pacific region where sales increased by 15% to 2.73 million cars, and of those, 2.51 million were sold in China, up 16.6%. Asian sales accounted for 46% of Volkswagen Cars’ worldwide sales this year, and it offset the sales losses in its other markets.
