Volkswagen Group has achieved a record sales year in 2010, after delivering a total of 7.14 million units. Last year the sales grew 13.5%, with the Group overtaking, for the first time in its history, the mark of seven million units in a twelve-month period.
Besides the growth in sales the Volkswagen Group also managed to extend its market share.
"2010 once again showed we are forging ahead with our international growth and implementing our Strategy 2018," said Group Board member for Sales Christian Klingler.
The Asian markets brought a very profitable year to Volkswagen Group, with sales increasing considerably. In China sales have gone up 37.4%, to a total of 1.92 million units, also a new record. India had a substantial increase in sales, with the Group handing over 53,300 units, which represented a growth of 181%. In the Asia/Pacific region the Volkswagen Group sold 38.5% more vehicles in 2010, with a total of 2.14 million units delivered.
South America was another market where Volkswagen Group also saw its deliveries rise. In 2010 the Group sold a total of 888,000 units, growing 8.9%. In the USA sales have gone up by 20.9% to a total of 360,300 units.
In Western Europe (excluding Germany), sales of the Group have risen 11.6%, with the Group delivering 1.85 million vehicles. In Central and Eastern Europe markets the growth in sales was 10.8 percent, with a 39.5% growth in Russia.
Germany, home market of the Group, suffered the effects of the scrapping premium, with sales falling 16.8% to a total of 1.04 million vehicles.
