Volkswagen is trying to make the hot hatch a little greener with the new Polo BlueGT. The sporty Polo uses cylinder deactivation and start/stop technology with a 1.4 TSI petrol engine with an output of 140ps but with fuel economy of 4.7l/100km and emissions of 108g/km of CO2. 

The Polo BlueGT can have even lower emissions with the optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that cuts them to 4.5l/100km and 105g/km of CO2. It will accelerate to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds. Top speed is 210km/h. 

The cylinder deactivation is operated on the first and fourth cylinder and used when the car is in third gear or above at a constant speed above 50km/h. At 70km/h with the cylinder deactivation the car saves 0.7l/100km of petrol. Volkswagen predicts that the cylinder deactivation will be used during 70% of driving. The switchover from two cylinders to four cylinders takes half a camshaft revolution, or between 13 milliseconds and 33ms. The driver is indicated on the multifunction display if the cylinder deactivation is being used. 

The exterior of the car 17in wheels, GT body kit, BlueGT badges, black radiator grill and black door mirrors. The interior gets a special multifunction display for the cylinder deactivation and tire pressure sensor, cruise control, black roofliner, leather-trimmed steering wheel and chrome trim. 

Volkswagen will put the Polo BlueGT on sale in July
