Volkswagen XL1 Caught Testing Again; This Time on Film

. It was caught testing at the end of August and VW Head of Product Development Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg said that it will build 50 of them in 2013 with a goal of 5,000 a year in the future. Now, it has been spotted testing again in Spain. 

Two cars are shown testing in the video. One of them has no coverings on the rear wheels and the other does. Both cars appear to have larger side pods for the rear-facing cameras than were on the original concept. It is possible that these cameras need more protection in the real world than was provided on the concept. Otherwise, the concept and test cars appear remarkably similar. 

The XL1 is meant to push the limits of automotive fuel efficiency. It uses a 800cc, two-cylinder diesel engine with a hybrid drive and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The body is mostly made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic components. The concept was projected to use 0.9l/100km and emit 24g/km of CO2.
