V60 Plug-in Hybrid was a huge success, but the one problem was that Volvo only build 1,000 units for the first year. They sold out in the first month. It has finally found capacity to increase production, and Volvo is finally building nearly twice as many V60 Plug-in Hybrids each week.

Production at the Torslanda plant has been increased from 150 units a week to 282 units, a 90% increase. Volvo believes that it will sell 7,600 plug-in hybrids in 2013 and 10,000 for 2014.

"Our Plug-in Hybrid is a unique car, superior to all other hybrids on the market. Since the Plug-in Hybrid has been integrated into the established production flow together with other car models, we have the flexibility to quickly adapt to the increasing demand," said Peter Mertens, head of research and development at Volvo.

The V60 Plug-in Hybrid emits 48g/km of CO2 and is certified at 1.8l/100km fuel economy. It has a 50km (31 miles) range on pure electric power.
