Volkswagen has confirmed that it will be bringing the Golf R to the United States in 2012. The all-wheel drive is an answer to the American VW enthusiasts that had been asking for a hot hatch from the brand for a long time.
For the U.S. market the Golf R will be powered by a turbocharged, 2-liter 4-cylinder engine that in Europe delivers 270 horsepower and 350 Nm. In North America the engine will be combined with a manual transmission. The European-spec VW Golf R is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 and to reach a top speed of 250 km/h.
The Golf R will be arriving to the US with two- and four-door bodies and will feature the latest version of the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system and an upgraded sport suspension that helps to increase the handling abilities.
Improved braking unique 18-inch alloy wheels, steering wheel, shift knob, door sills, front and rear fascia with dual exhaust, and unique interior trim will also be part of the package of the limited-edition performance car.
