The New Polo GTI is making its return with a powerful 180 PS engine, combining superior handling properties, uncompromising engine responsiveness and a maximum of safety. One of the main features of the Polo GTI is its fuel-efficiency.
The twincharged 1.4-litre TSI engine fitted with the efficient 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) enabled to reduce the combined fuel consumption to 5.9 l/100km, which is equivalent to CO2 emissions of 139 g/km. In comparison to its predecessor, which was also powered by a 180 PS 1.8-litre turbo engine, the new Polo GTI saw its consumption reduced by 2.0 l/100km and less 49 g/km of CO2 emissions. This represents a growth of 25 per cent of its fuel-efficiency.
Although its efficiency has been enhanced, its performance hasn’t been forgotten. In fact the new Polo GTI has a highly dynamic driving performance. With 1,194 kilograms the new GTI accelerates from 0 up to 100 km in just 6.9 seconds and is able to reach a top speed of 229 km/h.
With power being transferred to the wheels through the 7-speed DSG, the handling has been improved thanks to an electronic transverse differential lock (XDS), which also reduces the tendency to understeer. The Polo GTI also features the standard ESP electronic stabilisation programme including Hill Climb Assist. In terms of safety the new GTI is fitted with a highly effective airbag network, including combined head-thorax side airbags, belt tensioners, belt tension limiters plus belt warning, head restraints designed to avoid whiplash trauma (each in front), three rear head restraints as well as Isofix points on the rear bench seat for suitably fitted child seats.
The New GTI will also be the first Polo to be available with bi-xenon headlights with cornering lights, LED daytime running lights and corner marker lights as well as a panoramic tilt/slide sunroof.
In terms of exterior design the Polo GTI features the GTI badge in the front end that has been used since the first Golf GTI in 1976 and has become one of the most familiar signets in the automotive industry. The Polo GTI has its radiator grille surrounded by the two classic red trim stripes and has adopted from the Golf GTI the honeycomb structure of the air intakes in the front apron. The fender flares and the rear spoiler painted in body colour are also GTI specific features. The new GTI is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels in “Denver” design that offer a view of the red painted brake callipers, as well as a customised rear apron with a diffuser look in its lower section.
