Webber takes pole in rainy practice

Red Bull's Mark Webber took his fifth pole position of the 2010 F1 season in a qualifying session affected by the rain.

Webber made his quickest lap on the first lap of the third session. The rest of the field wasn't able to beat the Aussie's time as light rain started falling at the end of the session, breaking their hope of making a successive attempt at pole position.

Despite finding La Source corner wet Lewis Hamilton still managed a lap good enough for a place on the front row, alonside Webber.

At the same time Fernando Alonso was also on track at the same time but he failed to make a good effort and found himself lying in 10th position. The Spaniard was the only front-runner not to go straight out on the soft. On his second attempt he lost a lot of time at The Source and came 1.6 seconds slower  than Hamilton.

The second row will be shared by Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel as they ran their fastest lap on their first attempt on Q3.

Despite the rain that fell in Spa Jenson Button was still able to improve his fastest time on Q3 as he pushed Ferrari's Felipe Massa to sixth place.

Celebrating his 300th grand prix Rubens Barrichello will start tomorrow's race on seventh place alonside Force India's Adrian Sutil. On the fith row Nico Rosberg will depart on ninth spot ahead of Alonso.

Although they will both receive a grid penalty Mercedes' Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg finished qualifying in 11th and 12th loosing their place on Q3 to the Williams' drivers at the end of Q2.

Jaime Alguersuari, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Sebastien Buemi were eliminatedat the end of Q2 with Heikki Kovalainen granting the quickest time from new cars ahead of Virgin's Timo Glock. The Virgin driver was later given a five-place penalty for impedeing HRT's Sakon Yamamoto.

Petrov was the centre of the attentions in Q1 as he spread chaos when he spun back into the barrier on the inside of Turn 9, causing red flag situation.
