History

Caterham 7, or Seven, was released in 1973 and it was an evolution of the Lotus Seven model. Lotus had ceased production of the Seven in 1972, and Caterham took the opportunity to buy the rights.

Body and Design

The Caterham 7 was identical to Lotus Seven 4 series, apart from the badge, since it was the current version in production. Later, faced with supply problems, Caterham was forced to introduce changes in the model and rename it to Super Seven.

The 7 (or Seven) is Caterham’s most popular model. The lightweight sports car, based on Lotus 7, was launched in 1973. Caterham 7 is sold in kits or already fully assembled. The two-seater is very popular in the United Kingdom for The Lotus/Caterham 7 commemorated its 50th anniversary in 2007. This model was banned from racing in the 1960s in the USA and in the 1970s in UK to be “too fast to race”. Both bans have been lifted, but Caterham adapted the line as a slogan of the car.   more
