about this car

The Rally Version of the second generation Fiat Punto was presented to the public at the 1999 Bologna Motor Show. The model was sol by Fiat to customers taking part in 1600 Group A-Kit category races.

The Rally version was based on the Punto HGT and modified to fit the FIA regulations. It was 122 mm wider and 40 mm lower than the HGT version and featured different mudguards, bumpers and upper spoilers. The engine size was reduced to 1597 cc and different racing pistons and connecting rods were used. The flywheel was lighter and a new suspension used, accounting for the wider chassis and offering two variants: one for asphalt and one for off-road driving. The asphalt and off-road versions were also equipped with different springs and shock absorbers.

The model left the Fiat factory basically ready for the track. It raced until the 2003 season and claimed six wins in nine races.
