Fiat Punto (Italy, 1993-present)

The Fiat Punto is a supermini launched in September 1993. The Italian brand has always been strong in the supermini segment, with models such as the 500 or Panda and with the Punto an entirely new model was introduced.

The suspension was constructed withMacPherson struts at the front and independent rear wheels with trailing arms, previously used on the Tipo. The car was styled by Giugiaro and had a classic look.

At launch, the 55 entry level version was available in four variants, such as the ED (Economy Drive). In 1996 the three-door version "Team" joined the Punto's line-up. In 1997 the Punto range received a restyling although few things were changed. The car had established itself as a Europe wide bestseller, so Fiat did not see reasons for fundamental changes. The most important novelties were a wider choice of body colours, new upholstery and interior trim as well as the introduction of power steering and a new 16-valve Fire 1200 engine....
