In October 2000 Lotus debuted the second generation Elise, which would be no more than a slight restyling of its Series 1 predecessor, both in design and in chassis. Plus, this was the first Lotus car to be conceived on computer.

Series 2 Elise cars come with 1.8 L mid-engines that can provide from 120 to 189 hp, depending on the version. Top speeds achieved vary between a basic 124 mi/h (200 km/h) and a more powerful 150 mi/h (241 km/h) model. The Elise 2 is rear-wheel driven with optional Torsen LSD and comes with 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmission gearboxes.
