tuning and has been making them faster since 1961. Its latest creation, the D3 Bi-Turbo is the world’s fastest production diesel car with a top speed of 173mph and acceleration to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds. It also uses 53mpg UK and emits 139g/km of CO2 and is available as either a sedan or a wagon.

It uses a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline six with 344hp (350ps) and 516lb-ft (700Nm) of torque. Alpina says that the engine took two years to develop with BMW’s inline six as a base.

Prices start at €55,900 (£46,950 in the UK) for the sedan or €57,700 (£49,950 in the UK) for the Touring, and all cars come standard with eight-speed automatic gearbox, Adaptive M Sport Suspension, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated sports seats, climate control and Bi-Xenon headlights. It also gets a four-outlet exhaust, 19in wheels and aerodynamic upgrades.

Alpina also offers personalization options, including a hand-stitched leather interior and wood finishes.
