Aryton Senna's First Formula 1 Car for Auction

Ayrton Senna's first Formula 1 car, the Toleman TG-184-2 will be auctioned by Silverstone Auctions in the UK on May 16.

Senna drove the car in the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix where he qualified 13th but proved his ability as one of the greatest wet drivers of all time by finishing the race in second. Senna finished about seven seconds behind Alain Prost in that race, but was nearly 22 seconds ahead of Rene Arnoux who finished third. The race was best performance ever by a Toleman in Formula 1. Senna also finished 3rd in the British Grand Prix and 7th in the Canadian Grand Prix that season.

“We are thrilled to bring this iconic race car to auction as it’s undoubtedly one of the most important lots we’ve ever offered under the hammer.“Senna mania is reaching fever pitch and rightly so as he’s considered by many as the greatest F1 driver we’ve ever seen. It goes without saying that this will be one of the star attractions at the sale as it’s a very rare chance to own a much sought after piece of motorsport and Ayrton Senna history,” said Nick Whale, managing director for Silverstone Auctions.

The car itself has been privately owned for the last 16 years. The car is powered by a 1450cc Hart, turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Earlier in the year, Silverstone Auctions sold a racing suit and helmet worn by Senna for £74,750 and £35,650, respectively.
