BMW Classic Centre delivers first car

From now on July 7th will remain on BMW’s celebrations calendar at the day the first car completely restored at BMW Classic Center’s new Customer Workshop was delivered to its owner.

As BMW Classic Center handed back the 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi in BMW Welt, there were two reasons to celebrate: the first the success of completing the first full restoration since the opening of the BMW Classic Customer Workshop and the first time a classic BMW was delivered to a customer at BMW Welt, instead of a brand-new car.

“The successful restoration of the BMW 3.0 CSi shows that we are on the right track and that, together with our partners within the BMW Group network of facilities, we are capable of restoring vehicles to the highest quality standards and to individual customer specifications,” said Ralf Vierlein, Head of Sales and Aftersales at BMW Group Classic.

The owner of the 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi requested that his classic car was transformed into a perfect state. He asked for its four-speed manual gearbox to be transformed into an automatic, a conversion that had only been made previously with two prototypes of the BMW 3.0 CSi.

Thanks to the collaboration with the BMW Group Archive, the BMW Classic Center was able to undergo a conversion process on the “large Coupé”. It received an automatic transmission from a BMW 2.8 CS, with the repair of the vehicle taking months of research and many hours of manual work. A substancial bodywork damage was also repaired by the experts at BMW’s Classic Center, with also iron out technical and electronic defects and interior defects being repaired.

BMW Classic’s Customer Workshop has been created to respond to the growing demand on classic BMWs. “This workshop is a key element in the realignment of BMW Classic and our orientation towards customers in the classic vehicle market,” says Karl Baumer, Director of BMW Group Classic.
