BMW reveals armoured version of the X5

at the Moscow Motor Show, scheduled for later this week.

The new X5 Security PlusBMW X5 Security PlusGermany, 2014 > present is capable of protection level VR6. This means that the armored SUV can resist common triggers from automatic weapons, like the case of the AK47.

BMW has revealed few concrete details about the modifications that were made to the vehicle. Some changes include improvements to the seam joints and connecting panels. Furthermore, it has also been equipped with a safety glass.

The X5 Security Plus is based on the X5 xDrive50iBMW X5 xDrive50iGermany, 2014 > present and therefore is equipped with a 450hp V8 4.4-liter engine. With updates in shielding, the X5 should exceed the basic 2250kg of the series vehicle. Sprint time from 0 to 100km/h should also increased compared to the 4.9s of the X5 xDrive50i.

The interior has not changed much and remains almost identical to a standard X5. However, BMW made modifications in the X5's driver aids and suspension systems. In addition, the car receives a new gear lever.

Like other armored vehicles from BMW, the new X5 Security Plus will be produced at a Mexican plant dedicated to the production of such vehicles.
