“The Camaro Z/28 is an uncompromising performer that’s bred for the track – and every one of its unique components supports the goal of faster lap times,” said Mark Reuss, President of General Motors North America.
While the pricing may seem steep, the Z/28 is capable of 1.08g in cornering and comes with a functional body kit that produces downforce. Power comes from the previous Corvette Z06Chevrolet Corvette Z06 LZ1United States of America, 2009 > present3 photos
with a 7.0-liter V8 and a dry-sump oil system.
Other upgrades over the standard Camaro include a six-speed manual, limited slip differential, performance tuned traction control and larger wheels and tires with larger brakes
The Z/28 is offered in Red Hot, Black, Silver Ice Metallic, Ashen Gray Metallic and Summit White exterior colors.
The interior is mostly stripped with Recaro front seats and removed rear seats. It also has less sound deadening, thinner glass and no standard air conditioning
The Z/28 has only one available option – the $1,150 package that adds air conditioning and a six-speaker stereo. The standard Z/28 has only a one-speaker stereo system.
Orders will open in late January, and sales will begin in the spring. The first car will be auctioned at the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 18.
Chevrolet took the Z/28 to the Nürburgring in 2013 to lap the course, and it did it in 7:37.470.
