Volkswagen will be premiering at next week’s Geneva Motor Show the second generation of the CrossGolf. The new generation comes with a new styling and is equipped with new TSI and TDI engines.
The vehicle based on the Golf Plus is an all-arounder that is supposed to bridge the gap between the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) and SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle). Together with the Golf, Golf Plus, Golf Variant, Golf GTI and the Golf R it becomes the sixth model in the Golf’s range.
According to Volkswagen, the new Cross Polo will offer drivers engines with more fuel efficiency. The five-door vehicle will be powered by three 1.4 litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol (TSI) engines, with power outputs of 105 PS 122 PS and 160 PS. The diesel range includes a 1.6 litre and a 2.0 litre engines with outputs of 105 and 140 PS respectively. As for the fuel consumption, for example, the 1.4 TSI, with its output of 160 PS and 250 Nm of torque has a combined fuel consumption of 6.8 litres of fuel per 100 km, which represents CO2 emissions of 159. In the diesel range the 140-PS TDI, shifted by a 6-speed gearbox, has a consumption of 5.3 litres of fuel and 138 g/km of CO2 emissions.
Four of the five engines may also be equipped with Volkswagen’s automatic gearbox, the DSG (direct shift gearbox). The only exception is the 105 PS TDI. In the case of the 140 PS TDI the engine is shifted with a 6-speed variant, while the others use the 7-speed version.
As for its look, the new generation of CrossGolf follows the new Volkswagen Design DNA, which can be fond in the horizontally aligned band of the radiator grille between the headlights that is reflected in the horizontal form of the front bumper.
The first CrossPolos will arrive at the initial markets in the beginning of April.
